Three main types of Earrings.
Types of Earrings
Practically every woman in the western world has her ears pierced. Earrings have been a fashion accessory, sign of status or a religious statement for millennia, and they’re not going anywhere soon.
From subtle gemstone studs to oversized, dramatic hoops, earrings add symmetry and style to any face, enhancing any outfit from casual to black-tie formal. And while they may make the perfect gift, there are dozens of styles to choose from! Below is a brief summary of the three main types, although there is certainly plenty of variety within these styles.
A classic, versatile choice, studs are the smallest and simplest of earrings. Comprised of a diamond, gemstone, or metal ball that appears to float on the front of the earlobe, this is attached to a post that goes through the ear with a back to hold it in place. Diamonds in particular are often set ‘naked’ in studs to showcase their beauty and fire. Pearl studs on the other hand, can be found in many different sizes and colours, and add a touch elegance to any look – whether it’s a pair of jeans or a wedding dress. Metal studs are more casual than diamond & pearl studs, are easier to look after and are generally less expensive. Because of their relative cheapness to produce, metal studs are available in a plethora of designs. Simple and timeless.
These are designed to dangle from the ear. Sizes can vary, from a mere inch to nearly shoulder length. Elegant, feminine, a bit dramatic, drop earrings can be all metal, or may be accentuated with diamonds, gems and pearls. Chandelier Earrings dangle from the earlobe with several levels cascading to a point an inch or two below the ear. This style of earring makes a bold statement, saying a lot about the woman.
Retro hoops are available in many different sizes and thicknesses. Whilst large hoops exude a more vibrant, trendy look, small hoops make a more elegant statement. Hoop earrings too can be all metal, or embroidered with small diamonds or gem stones.
